Not everyone knows what the cornhole game is. Specific areas of the country keep it popular. Its also called by other names like corn toss, bean bag toss, and Baggo. This game was more popular across the country years ago. It could have been used as a backyard party game. Most schools had it as part of their P.E. curriculum. Usually, schools dont play these kinds of games anymore. The curriculum has changed. Family parties and get-togethers often dont have the same kinds of games today as they used to. The popularity of the cornhole game is on the rise again, however. Corn is not always used in the cornhole bags anymore. Often, the newer bags have sand as a filling. Sometimes, they are filled with beans. Traditional beanbags are usually filled with beans, but do not have to be. Each bag must be a specific size. Made out of duck cloth, the bags are 6 inches square. The duck cloth fabric is woven, plain and heavy. It is commonly used to make tents as well as beanbags. Cornhole bags are thrown and points are scored for hitting the target or the board around it. Cornhole boards are what are used for targets. The cornhole board or platform has a hole in it. The cornhole is the name for the whole in the board. This hole is the target that people aim for. Each time a bag stays on the board points are given as well. Getting a bag into the hole is worth the largest number of points. The board that is used must be a specific size. Regulations for the cornhole game say that platforms must be 2 feet by 4 feet. The most common material to make these boards from is wood. Plastic is another common material for cornhole platforms. Plastic is not used as often as wood. When these games are manufactured commercially, plastic is more often used. It typically lasts longer than wood and usually doesnt cost as much. The cornhole game can be learned easily. Each player stands thirty feet from the board. Bags are tossed toward the board with the hole in it. Players can get points for putting the bag into the hole in the board. If the bag hits the board and stays there, players also get points. If a bag doesnt stick it gets no points. The game can be played singly with one person against another. Playing in teams of two is also possible in the cornhole game. Using two cornhole boards is necessary for doubles games. Each team gets to have a separate board in doubles play. When doubles are played it is necessary to use two cornhole boards. Cornhole set can be purchased. They come with the board and the bags. Each cornhole set is inexpensive. Many people really enjoy these sets. Many people use this game at parties, picnics, and other gatherings. There are areas of the country where the cornhole game is very popular. Because of this, its popularity is spreading to other areas of the country as well. There are likely people that would not enjoy the cornhole game, however. Many old-fashioned games are ignored today because of technology. The cornhole game can be a fun pastime for those that are more interested in the old-fashioned games. |
